Here is what our team member Ms.Papitha shares her experience in working among theunderprivileged tribal (Irular) communities in the villages of Killai, Chidambaram district. Her(team) continuous efforts help the children of these communities to continue their education.
“என் பெயர் பபிதா. நான் ஏக்தாவில சீனியர் ப்ரோக்ராம் அஸோசியேட்டா
இருக்கேன். என்னோட வேலை பெண்கள் மத்தியில் வளரிளம்
பெண்களிடத்தில் விழிப்புணர்வு ஏற்படுத்துவது தான். நான் விழிப்புணர்வு
பண்ற கிராமங்களில் ரெண்டு இருளர் மக்கள் வாழ்கிற கிராமமும் இருக்கு.
அவங்களோட தொழில் அன்றாட கூலியா தான் இருக்கும். அதுனால அங்க
அவங்களுக்கு அவங்க குழந்தைகளோட படிப்புக்கு முக்கியத்துவம்
கொடுப்பதற்கு நேரம் இருக்காது. அவங்க ஊர்ல இதுவரைக்கும் first graduate
இல்லனு கூட சொல்லலாம். இப்போதான் 5 பெண்கள் காலேஜ் படிச்சுட்டு
இருகாங்க. இப்படி இருக்குற சூழ்நிலைலதான் நாங்க அங்க கல்வி பத்தியும்
பெண் கல்வி பத்தியும் விழிப்புணர்வு செஞ்சுட்டு இருக்கோம். அதுனால யார்
யார் தினமும் ஸ்கூல் போறாங்க. யாரெல்லாம் பாதியிலேயே நிக்குறான்னு
follow up பண்ணுவோம். அந்த மாதிரி நிக்கிற பசங்களெல்லாம் திரும்ப ஸ்கூல்ல
சொல்லி விட்டுட்டு வருவோம். அதே மாதிரி இப்போ ஒரு பொண்ணு
பன்னிரெண்டாம் வகுப்பில் இருந்து காலேஜ் போகமாட்டேனு சொல்லிடா,
என்னன்னு கேட்டா "நாங்க பேசுற பாஷையை வச்சு என்னைய கிண்டல்
பண்ணுவாங்க , எனக்கு அதுனால பயமா இருக்கு" னு சொல்லிடுச்சு.
பொதுவா அங்கே பொருளாதாரம் முக்கிய பங்கு வகிக்கும். யார்கிட்டயும்
uniform வாங்க காசு இருக்காது. அதுனால பிள்ளைங்கள படிக்க அனுப்பாம
ஈரோடு, திருப்பூர்ன்னு வேலைக்கு அனுப்பிருவாங்க. பெண் குழந்தைன்னா
கல்யாணம் பண்ணி குடுத்துருவாங்க .. இதுனாலையே நாங்க எட்டாம் வகுப்பு
முடித்த பிள்ளைங்களை follow up பண்ணிட்டே இருப்போம். TCயை மொத்தமா
பெற்றோர்களை வரவச்சு நாங்களே வாங்கிவச்சிக்குவோம். அதுக்கு அப்பறம்
அந்த பிள்ளைங்க எல்லாரையும் ஒன்பதாம் வகுப்புல சேத்துவிட்டு, தினமும்
ஒழுங்கா ஸ்கூல் போறாங்களானு பார்ப்போம். அப்புறம் uniform இல்லாத
குழந்தைகளுக்கு எற்பாடு பண்ணி கொடுப்போம். எங்களுக்கு இந்த வேலை
ரொம்ப திருப்தியா இருக்கு.” ❤❤❤
Our senior coordinator Papitha at Killai shared her experience in working with the underprivileged Irular
families in the villages where she has been working. Dropping off from the school remains a main
problem among the children of these problems. They need to go to the high school in the nearby village.
So they study till 8th std and will not continue after that. On the continuous follow up, she (with the
team) helps to get the Transfer certificate from the school and admits them in the high school. She does
this every year. After the admission, she continuously follows up to know whether the children go to
school. The economic setback is the main problem to these families as they are into daily wages
professions. So they never really care for their children getting educated. Many of them send their
children to Tirupur to work in the textile sector. They do not have graduates among them. On
continuous efforts, there are five girls studying in the college right now. There are lots of hesitation
among the young people to pursue degree in the colleges as they talk different language and other
students might tease them with that”
