EKTA RESOURCE CENTRE FOR WOMEN

 Every meeting with the community women brings us satisfaction in what we do. We can see the fruit of our work through the action taken by these girls/women. Recently, we had a meeting with women at Vagaikulam in Madurai on 13.07.23. The meeting started with the women sharing the issues that they face, clarification about various schemes/provisions, the changes that they want to bring in, and the kind of actions that need to be taken. A woman shared that a peer leader Sakthi* who is her niece stopped the child marriage at her village vagaikulam. She is from an agriculture-based family; both of her parents are involved in agriculture for a living and she has a brother studying 6th std. She recently attended the peer leaders' training at Ekta Office, Madurai. There was an awareness session on the Child Marriage Act, Helpline numbers, and the significance of girl children's education during the training. When she was on her summer vacation, her cousin who is 17 years old visited her house and spent her holidays there at Sakthi's house. Sakthi's cousin shared with her that there had been a marriage arrangement undertaken for her and she was not interested at all as she wanted to continue her studies. Sakthi remembered the child helpline 1098 which was taught to her during the training. She called the helpline immediately to complain about this. After that, the DCPC officials responded and visited her home and the parents too. They explained the importance of the girl's education and warned her cousin's parents not to conduct the marriage for her. Now Sakthi's cousin is happily pursuing Bsc nursing.

Through various programs, Ekta formulates many strategies to cultivate leadership skills among stakeholders such as children, adolescent girls, and women. One of such programmes is forming Children's clubs among the school children in the rural areas of Killai, Chidambaram district. We initiated six children clubs in the different schools of Killai. There are six schools in the villages of Killai and six children clubs have been established in these schools so far. The children studying 6^th-8^th std will be the members of the clubs. The club members hold the positions of Chief Minister, Education Minister, Finance Minister, Defense Minister, Sports Minister, and Environment Minister. They earn votes from the other students to win the elections -  This provides them an opportunity to take up responsibilities and develop the confidence to manage any adverse situations. There were instances where the school drop-out issues were sorted out by them by continuously monitoring the students' attendance; the sale of Junk food on the campus was prohibited; the fund was mobilized and a dust bin was installed to keep the environment clean.  These measures have been taken up by the members of children clubs themselves as they hold their responsibilities to take necessary steps to address the issues. The meeting would be held among the members in order to discuss the issues and take action together - these contribute to developing their leadership skills.  Ekta helps them throughout the process, grooming them well to be a responsible leader.

என் பெயர் கவிதா ,நான் கிள்ளையில் உள்ள நம்பிக்கை சென்டரில் ,சீனியர்

ப்ரோகிராம்அஸோஸியேட் ஆக பணிபுரிகிறேன் .நான் இதில் நாங்கள் நடத்தும் சிறார் மன்றம்குறித்த என் அனுபவத்தை பகிர இருக்கிறேன் . சிறார் குழு என்றால் கிள்ளையில் உள்ள கிராமபஞ்சாயத்தில் 2 கிராமங்களில் 6 பள்ளிகள் உள்ளன. இதில் ஒவ்வொரு பள்ளியிலும் 6 முதல் 8 ம்வகுப்பு பயிலும் மாணவர்களை ஒன்று இணைத்து அப்பள்ளிக்கு சிறார் மன்றம் என்ற ஒன்றை உருவாக்குவோம். இப்படி மொத்தம் தற்போது 6 சிறார் மன்றங்கள் உள்ளன. ஒவ்வொரு சிறார்மன்றத்திருக்கும் ஒரு முதலைமைச்சர் , கல்வி அமைச்சர் ,நிதி அமைச்சர் , பாதுகாப்பு அமைச்சர் ,விளையாட்டு துறை அமைச்சர் ,சுகாதார துறை அமைச்சர் இருக்கின்றனர் . இவர்கள் அனைவரும் தேர்தல் அடிப்படையில் போட்டியில் நின்று ,வாக்குகள் சேர்த்து வெற்றி பெறுபவர்கள். அவ்வாறுஅவர்களின் குழுவிற்கு அவர்களே தலைமை ஏற்றி வழிநடத்துவதால் பொறுப்புகளை விரும்பி ஏற்கின்றனர் .இச்செயல்பாடு பல மாற்றங்களை நிகழ்த்தி இருக்கிறது.எடுத்து காட்டாக கடந்த ஆண்டு 6 வகுப்பில் படிக்கும் மாணவன் ஒருவன் பள்ளிக்கு வரவில்லை. பள்ளிக்கு வர பிடிக்கவில்லை என்று கூறி நின்று விட்டான். இதற்கு சிறார் மன்றத்தின் கல்வித்துறை அமைச்சர் ஒரு கூட்டம் நடத்தி ,மாணவர்கள் அனைவரும் அப்பையனின் வீட்டுக்கு சென்று பேச வேண்டும் என்று முடிவு எடுத்தனர் . அதில் அம்மாணவனை பள்ளிக்கு வரவழைத்து வெற்றியும் கண்டனர். பின்பு இன்னொரு பள்ளியில் பள்ளிக்கு அருகில் Junk food விற்பதை எதிர்த்து அப்பள்ளி சுகாதார அமைச்சர் விழிப்புணர்வு நிகழ்ச்சி நடத்தினர். இப்போது அங்கு பழங்கள் மட்டும் விற்கப்படுகின்றது. வளர் இளம் பெண்களுக்கு நாப்கின் போடுவதற்கு குப்பை தொட்டி இல்லை என்று சுகாதார அமைச்சர் நிதி அமைச்சரிடம் கூறி இருக்கிறார், நிதி அமைச்சர் இதற்கு ஒரு கூட்டம் போட்டு அனைத்து உறுப்பினர்களிடம் 2 ரூபாய் வசூலித்து குப்பை தொட்டி ஒன்றை வாங்கி வைத்துள்ளார் . இப்படி நாங்கள் மாதம் மாதம் அவர்களை போய் சந்திக்கும் போது அவர்கள் எடுத்த நடவடிக்கைகளை கூறுகையில் மனதிற்கு மிகுந்த மகிழ்ச்சியை அளிக்கும். இந்த மன்றங்கள் மூலம், சிறார்களுக்கு தலைமைத்துவ பண்புகளும், பொறுப்புகளும் கற்றுக் கொடுப்பதே ஆகும். இதன் மூலம், சிறார்கள் எப்பொழுதும் கூட்டாய் பொறுப்புகளை ஏற்று எந்த சூழலையும் சரி செய்யும் திறனையும் பெறுகின்றனர். அத்தகைய பண்புகள் அவர்களிடம் வளர்வதை நடைமுறையில் காணும் பொழுது, இளைய தலைமுறையினரை சரியான முறையில் நெறிப்படுத்துகிறோம் என்ற திருப்தி ஏற்படுகிறது.
